India has become a buzzing market for scooter manufacturers in the past decade or so due to the increase of female riders in India. Not only this, these lightweight two-wheelers have become immensely popular among the older generation, as well. Now, most two-wheeler manufacturers have a strong market for scooters due to its popularity. Most automobile manufacturers are trying to strengthen their scooter segment by launching more and more models. These 100 cc two-wheelers have become one of the best ways to move around the busy urban traffic in the modern generation. This has paved the path for the leading manufacturer Hero MotoCorp, to market a number of scooters. Currently, it has two models in the market, the Maestro and the Pleasure. However, it is planning to launch a couple of models more in the next few years to tap the immense potential in the Indian market. Hero has a market share of nearly 54 per cent, as of now, and would definitely build some more, if it is able to capture the strong possibility of scooters.
One of the most popular scooters of Hero is the Maestro, which is powered by a 109 cc, air cooled, 4-stroke single engine. It is capable of producing a maximum power of 6 kW at 7500 rpm. The maximum torque of 9.1 Nm at a lower 5500 rpm is enough to provide a decent power to weight ratio to the scooter. Loaded with spring loaded bottom link hydraulic dampers at the front and unit swing spring loaded hydraulic suspension on the rear, this scooter offers a comfortable ride even on uneven roads. Shoe drum brakes are provided on the tyres, enabling perfect control on the scooter even on slippery roads. The clearance of the scooter is 155 mm and the total weight is 110 kilograms. The fuel tank capacity of the Hero Maestro is five litres.
Hero Pleasure, another popular scooter is powered by a 102 cc air-cooled, 4-stroke single cylinder engine. The maximum power output is of 5.03 kW at a modest 7000 rpm. However, the maximum twisting force achievable is 7.85 Nm at a lesser 5000 rpm. The Hero Pleasure is boosted by a CDI ignition and comes with a kick and self-start. The ground clearance of this scooter is 125 mm and the total weight of the scooter is at a lower 103 kg. The net fuel capacity of Hero Pleasure is 103 kg. The leading two-wheeler manufacturer is also looking forward to launch three scooters in the next couple of years.
