Volkswagen is popular for producing thoughtful cars for the masses. As the manufacturer’s name itself suggests ‘people’s-car’ in German. That being said, the manufacturer has also catered to the enthusiast by offering a little more power and equipment in their cars which wear the GTI badge. That being said the Volkswagen GTI (known as the Polo GTI globally) in the Indian market offered a crazy amount of oomph! Though with the recent words of Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess the GTI range of cars are unlikely to get any more additions.
Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess has put an end to speculations of any more vehicles to be added in the GTI range. Also stating that the Golf GTI, recently added Up! GTI and upcoming Polo GTI have completed their GTI range of cars.
Herbert Diess said, “I think with the three we have now, we are set. GTI for us is ‘the’ hot hatch: a sporty car, classless, with potential for everyday use and accessible for many. It should be this car – a hot hatch.”
This decision of limiting the GTI range does not leave scope for GTI ID range of cars. Although Diess stated that including a performance model is not the aim for the forthcoming all-electric cars from Volkswagen. On the other hand Diess hinted that the Volkswagen group of company will widen its range of sporty hybrid models with the GTE badge. Adding to that he said, “With any model line-ups you have electrification coming. There is broader possibility for GTE than GTI”
Flip side to that the Volkswagen boss also said that it won’t be viable for the company to add the Polo GTE to the Polo line up due to its market position and price.
This also rules out the possibility of Volkswagen Scirocco to get a GTI update as the company is focusing on the GTE models. Though the Scirocco GTE is highly anticipated.
