The Indian subsidiary of General Motors is mulling the option of entering the premium car segment by launching the Cadillac brand in the Indian market, in coming years. The company says that since the Cadillac model was having the strongest recognition, GM would like to use it to enter the premium segment in India.
According to a statement given by Managing Director of GM India Karl Slym, "Last year the company had made a survey of the potential for GM's other models like Pontiac, Buick and Cadillac in India. But we found that Cadillac is having the strongest brand recognition here." He added that the company will launch Cadillac at the right time.
Besides Cadillac, the company has also planned up to roll-out as much as six new models in the Indian market along with new variants of existing cars. The prospective cars of GM in the country include a SUV, a hatchback, a sedan, and two LCVs (lightweight commercial vehicles).
GM India is currently the fifth largest auto maker in the Indian market. The company sells a series of passenger car models in the country including hatchbacks like Spark, U-VA and Beat, sedans like Aveo, Optra Magnum and Cruze, SUV Tavera and Captiva.
