General Motors India, the Indian subsidiary of the world’s second largest car maker, has registered a surge of 33.46 percent in its sales in the month of July 2011. The company sold total of 9,508 units of its cars in the country during this month as compared to 7,124 units sold in the same month last year.

The July sales of the company include 1,502 units of Chevrolet Sparks, 5,255 units of Chevrolet Beat, 62 units of premium hatchback UVA, 125 units of the starting range sedan Aveo, 123 units of mid-sized sedan Optra and 621 units of premium luxury sedan Cruze. The sales of company’s popular multi utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera stood at 1,707 units. The luxury sports utility vehicle Captiva registered sales of 113 units during the month.

Commenting on the company’s performance during the month, General Motors India Vice-President P Balendran said, "The growth was primarily driven by the overwhelming response to the newly launched Chevrolet Beat Diesel... Although we have registered 34 per cent growth, the market continues to be sluggish due to the repeated hike in interest rates and fuel prices."

Meanwhile, the company’s recently launched Beat Diesel is receiving a good response in the Indian market. Powered by the segment exclusive 1.0L diesel engine, the car has been launched in the price range of 4.29 lakh to 5.45 lakh. The new Beat diesel is expected to drive volume sales for the company along with further boosting it’s market share in the Indian market.
