Owning a car of your own is indeed a dream for many among us. But some of us back out from this owing to hight cost of ownership or non-afFord ability to own one. To cater to this lag, American carmaker Ford has kicked off a share-car project in Bengali that allows friends, co-workers and families to share a vehicle among them and gain benefits of owning a car. The company has collaborated with self-drive car rental company Zoomcar for this purpose. Apart from this, the American carmaker is conducting experiments in 24 other locations like - nine in Europe and Africa, eight in North America, one in South America and seven in Asia.

Researchers at Ford have been working on developing a model for managing ownership and vehicle scheduling chores. The details of the project is yet to be finalized but the project is likely to be take off this year. Speaking more on the occasion, Ford said, “There are a variety of different ways this (share-car) can be done depending on the rules and regulations of the arrangement in a rapidly emerging, congested urban environment. Once the pilot is complete, we will collect data and validate next steps. We will run the program till we have sufficient data to make business decisions.”

Commenting more on the occasion Mark Fields, Ford CEO was quoted as saying, “We see a world where vehicles talk to one another, drivers and vehicles communicate with the city infrastructure to relieve congestion, and people routinely share vehicles or multiple forms of transportation for their daily commute.”
