The revelation came in Mumbai on December 6, 2012 and has generated a great deal of buzz in the underground rumour-mill. The company has also revealed that it will launch some 9 new models under Jeep and its own brand in the country over the next few years. Expressing his views regarding the company's future objectives in the country, Mike Manley, Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Asia region and President and Chief Executive Officer, Jeep Brand, said, “Our vision for India will revolve around a three-pronged strategy. First, introduction of new vehicles that will soon include the legendary Jeep brand. Second, the expansion of our independent dealer network and, finally, strong marketing initiatives that will continue to improve our awareness and brand perception in the market.”

Further, commenting on company's small dealership network, Enrico Atanasio, Managing Director (MD), FGAIPL, said, “Initial interest from the investors has proved to be strong. Therefore, we will be able to establish 120 independent dealers by 2013. We are optimistic about our prospect for growth in the Indian car market, which grew 12 percent in 2011 and is rapidly becoming one of the major markets in the world. With the launch of the Jeep brand, new Fiat products, an expanding dealer network and upcoming marketing initiatives, we will be in a strong position to capitalize on this growth.”

It has also been revealed that Fiat India is working towards expanding its assembling operations for a refreshed avatar of its Grande Punto hatchback along with a new Linea Classic edition. The company has claimed to increase its sales and service network to around 120 touch points by the end of 2013. At present, FGAIPL shares retail outlets with its Indian joint venture partner, Tata Motors. The Jeep brand is one of the oldest utility vehicle making company in the world and acclaimed for its out-and-out premium off-roaders. It would be fascinating see Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler burning rubber on the rugged Indian terrain, and a major upheaval is expected in the segment next year.
