      Fiat India rolls out its 250000th car and 500000th engine from Ranjangaon plant

      Fiat India Automobiles Limited, a joint venture of Tata Motors and Fiat S.p.A recently announced that is has successfully rolled out its 2,50,000 vehicle in India, besides producing the 5,00,000 engine from the Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra. It must be noted that Fiat India supplies petrol and diesel engines to prominent auto makers of the Indian auto market, like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. It must be noted that the Ranjangaon plant of Fiat rolls out engines meant for both its co-owners Fiat and Tata Motors. The plant is capable of manufacturing around 2 lakh cars while at the same time producing 3 lakh engines.

      On the eve of this historic event, the spokesperson for the company said, “The manufacturing facility has enabled us to leverage synergetic benefits and will further aid us in tapping the potential that the growing Indian market has to offer. The facility will also be utilized for manufacturing of some of the new products that will be launched in future by both the partners.’’

      The Ranjangaon plant of Fiat is located in Pune district of Maharashtra and currently employs 2500 people while providing indirect employment to another 1500 people. This 200 acre facility of Fiat India is the prime plant of the company for producing various models of both the makers. Models like Linea, Grand Punto, Tata Manza, Indica Vista and Indica V2 are manufactured at this facility of Fiat. In terms of manufacturing engines, the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine and 1.2-litre Fire gasoline engine are produced at this plant, besides the 1.4-litre Fire gasoline engine.

      Tata Motors and the Italian auto maker entered into a joint venture in 1997 with equal shareholding. The cost of developing this facility has already exceeded Rs. 4000 crore and with more advancements predicted in future, it shall further go up. Recently, FIAT Group Automobiles India Private Limited inaugurated its state-of-art stockyard at the Ranjangaon plant. The stockyard is built to house 2000 cars during any specific course of time. It is spread across 12 acres within the plant's premises and will currently stock Linea and Punto models of Fiat.
