      Fiat India mulls to roll-out new car through CBU route

      The Indian unit of the leading Italian car maker Fiat is mulling over the option of launching a new car in the country through CBU (completely built unit) route.

      In a recent statement given to the reporters, Fiat India President and CEO Rajeev Kapoor told reporters, "There are different routes and opportunity to launch a model in India and the completely built unit route is one of them. Every route is open to us and we are still evaluating."

      The company however, hasn’t revealed the specification details timeline of the launch of this model in the Indian market.

      Meanwhile, the company is developing a small car specifically for the Indian market at its R&D facility in its base market Italy. The new Fiat small car will be launched in the Indian market next year, which will be placed below the segment of Punto hatchback of the company. The car will be produced at the company’s Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra.

      The current portfolio of the company in the Indian market include two of the highly competitive car models including hatchback Fiat Punto and sedan Fiat Linea.
