      Eicher scores 14.8 per cent growth with its commercial vehicles

      The sales figures of Eicher trucks and buses for April 2012 stood at 4213 units, which showed a growth of 14.89 per cent as compared to 3669 units of the corresponding period last year. The sales of the company from the beginning of the year till 1st May 2012 were 18408 units, which recorded a growth of 13.8 per cent under the review of 16174 units in same period last year.

      In domestic Commercial Vehicle (CV) market, which incorporates 5T and above vehicles, the company registered a decent growth of 18.2 per cent by reporting sales of 3963 units in April 2012. The comparison is made under the review of 3353 units, which were sold in the same period last year. The yearly sales of CV in domestic market till 1st May 2012 stood at 17486 units, which marked a growth of 16 per cent when compared to 15095 units of the corresponding period last year.

      Considering the bus segment, Eicher reported a growth of 33 per cent. The sales of April 2012 stood at 802 units, whereas the figures of same month last year were recorded at 602 units. The annual sales of Eicher buses till 1st May 2012 were reported at 2845 units, showing a growth of 52 per cent against 1873 units sold during the same period last year.

      The domestic market sales of Eicher’s HD (heavy-duty) trucks for April 2012 stood at 782 units, which registered a growth of 52.4 per cent when compared to 513 units of previous year. Till 1st May 2012, the annual sales of HD vehicles stand at 3073 units, marking a growth of 26 per cent against 2437 units of the same period last year.

      Considering international market, the figures of trucks and buses exported in April 2012 stood at 250 vehicles, whereas the company registered exports of 316 units in the same period last year. Despite the downward bend in this year’s figures, the export flow of Eicher is quite healthy.

      An equal share partnership between Volvo group and Eicher motors Ltd. resulted into the birth of VE Commercial Vehicles limited (VCEV). VCEV has been operating since July 2008 and it incorporates a complete line-up of Eicher buses as well as trucks, VE engines, spare parts of Eicher and services like engineering design. The company also holds the rights for sales and distribution of Volvo trucks in the Indian market. The joint venture company has set its eyes to emerge as a full-time operating CV manufacturer whose products will bring new technology in CV segment of India and other leading auto markets of the world.
