Wearing a proper bike jacket is a vital component in your safety gear before you hit on the power button. Apart from the styling factor, a good jacket comes as a savior in event of an unexpected crash. Some jackets are known to provide with that aerodynamic advantage to the rider for perfect control at high speed runs. Taking things to next level in terms of safety measurements, the bike-maker has teamed up with Dainese to develop a system for new in-jacket airbag device that is lighter in weight.

Fitting the jacket with sensors does not seem to be a great idea as that would add-up to unwanted weight on the biking accessory. To avoid extra weight, Ducati intends on equipping the bikes with sensors. The idea seems to be a smart move as the Ducati bikes are loaded with electronic system that is capable of monitoring actions like acceleration, braking, and orientation, therefore it is believed that the bike may also be able to detect when the rider is about to crash. Once the system gauges a risky situation, the sensor is capable of sending a signal over Wi-Fi to the airbags in the jacket asking it to deploy before the rider crashes on the tarmac.

The technology is expected to lay concrete foundation in terms of bikers safety on a global level. For now, the technology may be used in the upcoming Multistrada 1200 D-Air sports tourer that is expected to be launched with the new jacket in European market this May. It is still uncertain as to how effective this jacket with an air bag technology can be in real-time conditions, but Ducati expects it to be quite effective and successful in practical situations too.
