Honda Siel Cars India, the Indian subsidiary of Japan based leading car maker Honda Motors, has been struggling with a severe shortage of essential components due a massive flood in Thailand. It is to be mentioned here that Thailand has been a major supplier of essential components to Honda. The shortage of parts is directly hitting the company’s production, resulting in an increased waiting period for its popular cars like small car Honda Brio and new Honda Jazz.

At present, bookings of Honda Brio and Jazz models have crossed 6000 units and 4000 units, respectively. Though there is an acute shortage of parts, the company has decided to continue with the production as long as there are parts available in its inventory. Moreover, it is also looking forward to source parts from alternative locations like China and Japan.

"All our models have been hit (by the floods in Thailand) and it's a pretty serious development. We are facing severe shortage of parts which is unfortunate because the demand is very good for all our models right now. But we have decided not to stop production; we're looking at a strategy to handle the situation," said Jnaneswar Sen, Honda Siel Cars India senior vice president, in a recent statement given to TOI.

Honda has recently rolled-out its much awaited small car Brio in the Indian market. The car is receiving good response in the country and Honda has received over 6,000 bookings for this car in the Indian market.
