Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the wholly owned subsidiary of the German automaker, Daimler AG, has targeted to commence the production level expansion capacity to 36000 units in 2014 at its plant located in Chennai.

Mr. Sreeram Venkateswaran, AVP (Marketing and Sales) at DICV revealed that strategic plans are devised by the company to capture a 20 percent chunk in the commercial vehicle market in the country by the year 2020. In a move to offset the effect of the marginal sale of 3 percent scored in the last fiscal year and to boost up sales of its 9 to 49 tonne range of trucks, the company is seeking to cater the needs of the infrastructure, consumer durable sector and the automotive sector.

DICV has planned to launch the commercial vehicles under its badge in India by September this year that will fiercely rival against established leaders such as Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, Eicher Motors, etc. and is expecting to clock a sale of around 2500 units in this calendar year.

Mr. Venkateswaran was quoted as saying on their plans to raise the life of the fleet, "Big fleet owners in India are known to replace part of their fleet once in four years. DICV range would be less maintenance and hence, not burdensome for truck owners."

DICV has infused around Rs. 4,400 crore in its Indian operations and is stepping towards utilizing 55 percent of the total production capacity of 36,000 units by the year 2013, the completion of which will mark the beginning of full utilization of the production capacity.
