General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL), the country's fifth largest passenger car maker, has tasted most of its success in compact segment of the Indian auto market. The company has recorded its best sales from entry-level subcompact Chevrolet Spark. However, the company is yet to take a decision in bringing its Sonic hatch to Indian market.

The Chevy Sonic looks trendy and flaunts futuristic design along with an incredible sporty outlook. Recently, this stylish hatch became a proud recipient of J.D. Power Award for having the 'Highest Ranked Vehicle Appeal Among Subcompact Cars.' The interiors of the cars are spacious and can comfortably seat five occupants, including the driver.

At present, Chevrolet Sonic is available in United States and poses a stiff competition to its segment rival Ford Fiesta. The premium hatch comes fitted with a 1.8 litre ECOTEC engine in its petrol variant and 1.4 litre ECOTEC turbocharged motor in its diesel version. Both petrol and diesel powertrains churns out an impressive peak power output of 138 bhp, which make Chevy Sonic an incredibly powerful and fun-to-drive hatchback.

The American auto major is yet to divulge any details regarding the possibility of launch of Chevy Sonic in the Indian market. Last year, General Motors India introduced its Chevrolet Sail U-VA premium hatchback in the domestic market, which is the company's most expensive offering in the compact car segment at the moment. If launched, the Sonic will sit above Sail U-VA in the company's product portfolio and could carry a slightly exorbitant pricing in the Indian auto market. It is going to be interesting to see how the domestic buyers receive Chevy Sonic but one thing is certain that many Indians will be keeping their fingers crossed for the hatchback's launch.
