      Chevrolet Volt honoured with the prestigious 2012 European Car of the Year award

      The American car manufacturer, General Motors in addition to bagging the world’s largest automaker tag is on cloud nine as its most fuel efficient compact car, Chevrolet Volt has been titled as the European Car of Year 2012.

      The winner of this prestigious award was decided by 59 jury members mostly, automotive journalists from over 23 European countries who made deliberations from among the nominees on the basis of appearance, safety features, comfort level, economy, price, performance and driving satisfaction.

      The Chevrolet Volt, sold in the brand name of Opel Ampera in the Europe has not been able to record outstanding global sales volume but the stylish appearance of the car teamed up with great fuel efficacy due to installation of plug-in hybrid battery had significantly raised its chances to grab the award.

      Mr. Haken Matson, President – EUCOTY panel of jury and an expert auto critic for Dagens Industry commented, “The Ampera and Volt won in a field of strong competitors, particularly on account of the outstanding technical progress they reflect.” He further continued saying, “With its range extender, the Ampera presents a very sound new concept on our way to e-mobility. By solving the problem of range anxiety, it is a remarkable step into the future of electrification.”

      The Volkswagen Up!, a city car hatchback and the compact car, Ford Focus also shared the spotlight by winning second and third positions respectively.

      The year 2011 also poured in various awards for this plug-in hybrid electric car such as the Green Car of the Year , North American Car of the Year and World Green Car.
