Chevrolet Beat is performing quite well in the Indian market and the company has already plans lined up to launch a diesel variant looking at the response from the customers. A diesel model was recently caught testing in India by DWS which was heavily camouflaged.

General Motors has already announced that it will be launching a new diesel variant powered by a 1.0L engine. The model is expected to be commercially available by early 2011. The diesel engine is expected to be based on Fiat’s 1.3L multi-jet diesel power train producing 140-150 Nm of torque. The main focus of the engine will be to deliver maximum fuel efficiency. It is expected to deliver mileage of 20 kmpl on practical levels and ARAI certification of 22-23 kmpl under test conditions.

The news of the diesel Chevrolet Beat was also confirmed by Mr Ankush Arora, VP Sales-Marketing GM India. The company is planning to introduce an LPG variant of the model in the country shortly, as well.
