The auspicious day of Dhanteras during the Diwali week marks as a good day for investing in new ventures or starting things afresh. In the automotive sector the sales for cars and bikes hit an all time high on Dhanteras day. But this time around bike sales have reported a better sales number than the car market in the country.

In Lucknow, car sales have reportedly fallen by about 40% as compared to previous year's sales figures. The market has reached closer to about Rs. 100 Crores this festive season. In the second hand market, used car sales have dropped by about 30%. Divij Narain, BMW car dealer in Lucknow said, “we sold off less than what we had expected - only 5 cars on Dhanteras.” On the other hand, two wheelers have reported a growth of about 25% during Dhanteras.

In certain parts of the country, selected manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki reported more demand than the supply. Speaking more on the occasion, Himanshu Kumar, an official from Maruti Suzuki showroom said, “It is impossible to deliver new cars to all of them who have made the booking earlier to get their delivery on the occasion of Dhanteras because demand is more than supply.” In the bike segment too, the demand for bikes on this auspicious day has been more than the supply available, due to this, a fortunate few got their vehicles delivered on time, whereas many more may receive their vehicles in the coming days.
