Mahindra and Mahindra is venturing into foreign markets seriously. It is now building a brand new SUV right from scratch especially geared towards western markets. This indigenous project from Mahindra asks for investments to the core of Rs 700-800 crores and so far is one of the most ambitious projects from Mahindra.
"Yes, we are building an all-new SUV and are investing Rs 700-800 crore for this product that will come at a premium to the Scorpio in terms of pricing and positioning," said Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive Division, M&M. He also mentioned that the new SUV will be built at company’s plant in Maharashtra.
Mahindra lost their battle with Tata Motors in acquiring Jaguar and Land Rover. It has now taken up the challenge to build its own global brand christened as “Global SUV.”
The brand new SUV will be a crossover model with platform borrowed from a passenger car and the looks of an SUV. Such cars with car platforms have good light off-road capability. The first model is expected to be diesel model priced around Rs. 10 lakh. The new model will be available in India as well. "Even though this is being developed as a global product, it will also be sold in India as well," said Goenka.
