BMW will be developing a new full-size SUV, christened X7 which is expected to take shape by 2016. This full grown SUV from BMW is said to be an extended avatar of the framework that molds basis of X5 and X6 SUV. The new offering from BMW will be the largest SUV in the luxury car maker’s line-up and will be produced at the company’s Spartanburg Plant located in North America where X5 and X6 SUVs are also manufactured. BMW X7 will be a seven seater SUV with three rows and enhanced wheelbase enabling ample legroom and headroom for the passengers sitting at the back.

BMW’s new SUV, X7 will gun straight against the likes of Mercedes Benz GL Class. Once the SUV is production ready, it will be made available for sale in global markets including significant auto souks like Europe, North America and China. Looking at the increasing demand for full grown premium SUVs in India, it is likely that BMW will bring its new offering in domestic market too.

Besides from revealing development of a new SUV, BMW has also proclaimed its plans to rev up production at the Spartanburg plant. The company will be investing €726.8million at their Spartanburg plant to ramp up production capacity to 450,000 units within 2 years.

Since the company will be manufacturing X7 from Spartanburg facility, therefore it becomes necessary for the car maker to increase its production capacity.

Apart from manufacturing X7, BMW is also thinking on the lines of producing X5 plug-in hybrid at the Spartanburg plant in coming time. The X5 plug-in hybrid was previewed as Concept X5 eDrive earlier, the vehicle is expected to get a TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine along with an electric motor and an xDrive all-wheel drive system.
