BMW Motorrad, the two-wheeler department of luxury auto maker BMW, broke the cover of its much awaited F650GS in the Indian auto market on 10th April 2012. The bike is designed as an off-roader and therefore, it holds a powerful water-cooled, 2-cylinder parallel twin engine that has a displacement of 798 cc. The bike will prove to be little heavy as it weighs around 200 kg, but its brilliant emissions and high-end standards will make it one of the fastest two wheelers over the Indian roads. This machine has impressive off-roading capabilities, and thus it will soon emerge as a best option among the auto aficionados. However, its seat height of 820 mm can create a little problem for individuals having a short posture. The unique designing of this motorcycle will feature great tractability, and therefore will provide an easy riding position with a comfortable and smooth drive. With a long wheelbase of 1575 mm, the motorcycle offers sufficient space for seating of two individuals.

To improve the performance of this engine, it is incorporated with a dry sump lubrication technology. In addition, the engine of this motorcycle is mated to a constant mesh six speed transmission system, which has smooth and easy switching of gears. BMW has incorporated an endless O-ring chain with shock damping system in the rear wheel end that delivers a convenient and hassle free ride.

As far as dimensions of this bike are concerned, it has a length of 2,280 mm, width of 890 mm (including mirrors) and a height of 1240 mm (excluding mirrors). In addition, the seat height from ground is measured at 820 mm, whereas the lower portion is measured at 790 mm. The front rim of this bike measures at 2.50 x 19", while the rear rim is of 3.50 x 17". With a big rim, the front tyre of F650GS measures around 110/80 - 19 59H, whereas the rear version accounts to 140/80 - 17 69H. The unladen weight of this bike is 199 kg, when it is completely fuelled. F650GS has a fuel tank capacity of 16 litres with a reserve of 4 litres approximately.

In order to ensure a complete safety of riders, the company has also assimilated an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) within the bike, which enables the rider to tackle with the emergency situations more efficiently. However, the ABS system of this bike can be also switched off. Moreover in the front portion, BMW has provided single disc brake with a diameter of 300 mm that holds double-piston floating calliper. However, the rear end also has a single disc of 265 mm diameter that holds single-piston floating calliper. Owing to all these advancements, the bike is competitively priced at Rs. 9.99 lacs.
