      BMW India Rolls Out New Plans for India

      BMW India has announced fresh plans to increase its investments and sales figures in the Indian market. To start with, it has rolled out fresh plans to invest another USD 40 million or Rs. 1.8 billion in India to expand its manufacturing capacity. BMW already has its plant near Chennai and will add further capacity to this plant to roll out more models.

      The Chennai plant rolled out its 10000th unit from its assembly line that produces BMW 3 series and 5 series models in petrol and diesel variants. “It is a moment of great pride and joy for us at BMW Plant Chennai to roll-out the 10000th car made in India. The BMW Plant Chennai team is very excited with the achievement of this milestone in less than four years and looks forward to fulfil the increasing demand for BMW cars in India. BMW production is characterized by people that consider quality not only a task, but first and foremost a core attribute. I am convinced that our employees here at BMW Plant Chennai will make a great contribution in strengthening our company’s long-term success in India”, said Juergen Eder, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai.

       

      BMW plant at Chennai currently has capacity to roll out 5400 units annually which will be increased up to 8000 units annually by end of 2011. "Buoyant demand for luxury cars has forced us to devise our strategy on new launches and a combination of locally assembled and imported cars and SUV’s would be launched in India in 2011-12,” said Andreas Schaaf, president of BMW India.

      BMW has already invested Rs. 1.1 billion in the Indian market till September 2010. It is now in the process to introducing its new compact SUV model BMW X1 in the Indian market which is expected to be priced at Rs. 25 lakh and above. BMW is also planning to increase its dealership network to 21 outlets across the country. It would create approximately another 1200 jobs in dealer and service network.
