      BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sportscar launching today

      BMW India will finally launch the highly acclaimed BMW i8 Plug-in hybrid sportscar in the Indian car market today. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show in the presence of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, the i8 sportscar will serve as a flagship product for the Bavarian automaker in India. It is the world’s first car on sale featuring laser headlamps.

      The BMW i8 hybrid features a low slung body design with large hood and squat rear profile. At the front, the sportscar has flat twin kidney grille, flanked by oblong-shaped full LED headlamps, wide air intakes and aerodynamically enhanced wing mirrors positioned below the headlamps. It features scissor doors that open upwards, while the wheel arches have been fitted to specially designed alloy wheels.

      Inside the cabin, the BMW i8 inspired by other BMWs. It is equipped with lots of gizmos and digital button. The BMW iDrive system features 10-inch display that serve as a display for various features. The other features include leather seats, chrome plastics, gear-shift lever, parking brake, start/stop button, etc.

      It is powered by a 1.5-litre litre three-cylinder twin scroll turbocharged engine that churns out a maximum power output of 231bhp and 320Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox which sends the power to rear wheels. The front wheels of the i8 are coupled to an electric motor via a two-stage automatic box that develops 131bhp. This engine is paired to a 5kWh lithium-ion battery, and the combined power output of the system is 362bhp and 570Nm of torque.
