      BMW 5 Series all set to launch in India

      Iconic German auto giant BMW is all set to launch its updated 5 Series model in the Indian car market. The car that was recently unveiled at 2013 Geneva Motor Show is going to be launched on 10th of October, reports have claimed. With latest updates, 5 Series model will enter into its sixth-generation since its inception in global markets. As told by the company, the facelift version of 5 Series will bear numerous styling updates besides new functionalities. Talking about changes, the German firm has not gone too far in altering the exteriors of the car. However, changes can be seen in additional contour lines for the surround of the BMW kidney grille alongside with newly structured lower air intakes can be seen. Also to mention, the front fog lamps are now provided with chrome surrounds whereas the tail lights have been changes.

      As seen in the model meant for global markets, adaptive Xenon headlamps and LED fog lamps were standard on all variants while for model meant for sale in India, the company might refrain from giving these features as standard. On the inside, the luxury sedan gets updates to the control display of iDrive system, which now sports a chrome strip border along with a touch pad for controlling it. Reportedly, BMW has also given a feature in which the cabin ambient lights can now be switched from orange and white.

      Also, a restructured boot increase its capacity that can now store up to 500 litres. The updated 5 Series gets new alloy wheels, interior colour schemes, exterior shades that gives the car scope for individualisation as per needs of prospective buyers. As far as pricing goes, BMW is yet to announce any details but industry experts are predicting that the car would a costlier than the outgoing model. The German manufacturer is claiming that its new 5 Series will give improve mileage figures owing to newly developed function in which the engine gets disengaged when the car is coasting along.

      The changes given in 5 Series are of cosmetic nature and the company has not tweaked the mechanicals of the car that are same as before. It is expected that a choice of 5 trims will be available besides the three engine options that include two petrol and two diesel. As seen in the existing model of 5 Series, the different engines comprises a 2.0-litre petrol, 2.0-litre diesel (available in differently tuned options) and 3.0-litre diesel. The 2.0-litre petrol delivers 184 bhp of power and 270 Nm torque whereas the 2.0-litre diesel is available in differently tuned options of 184 bhp with 380 Nm torque and 218 bhp with 450 Nm torque. While the 3.0-litre engine has a capability to reach 258 Nm of power while generating 560 Nm of torque. Also to mention, the 535i trim of 5 Series is powered by 2979 cc engine that gives away 306 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque.
