Hyundai has recently launched the refreshingly new trim of the i20 Active, which directly stands a strong competitor to the Volkswagen Cross Polo. Based on hatchback platform the vehicles have also been tuned for off-road conditions. The vehicles are taller and longer than their respective hatchback and have received side body cladding, roof rails and new bumpers. However, Hyundai i20 Active scores slightly higher in terms of wheelbase of about 2570 mm. The boot space in Cross Polo scores better with a 294 liter capacity.

Both i20 Active and Cross Polo are available in petrol and diesel engines. Comparing diesel versions of these cars, their engines have been sourced from their hatch cousins, however in i20 Active, the torque output has been enhanced by a margin. The power-weight ratio of i20 Active revolves between 74-78 PS. On the other hand, the Cross Polo delivers a mileage figure of about 20.14 kmpl. In terms of pricing, the top-end variant of i20 Active costs about Rs. 51,000 more than that of Cross Polo.

As for the petrol trims, the Cross Polo comes equipped with a 1.2-litre engine, whereas i20 Active shares its 1.2-liter powertrain with the Elite i20, but with an improved torque output. The three-cylinder engine of Cross Polo makes about 64.9 PS, while i20 Active has a power-weight ratio of around 75 PS. Similar to the diesel sibling, the petrol i20 Active also happens to be the winner in the charts of fuel efficiency.
