Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), one of the largest Indian auto makers, is looking forward to the establishment of solar-powered charging stations to run its new electric car. M&M stated that the electric car produced under Mahindra Reva venture will be provided with sufficient infrastructure to enable easy charging of the electric car.

Talking about the electric car, Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman, Mahindra Group said that "We are working on our electric car Reva, a green car that would run on clean energy. For this, we are looking at charging stations to run on solar power. We are the first company to commission solar power projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM)."

He further stated that "Electric cars sell the most in Norway. So, that is the future. The UK is the largest export market for Reva electric vehicles. But in India, we have to ensure that we have fuelling stations...it'll take time."

As per M&M, its next move is to produce solar power above 100 MW within the next two years. Anand Mahindra was positive regarding the setting up of the solar plants as the Government policies are encouraging and the company plans to bid for these projects under the JNNSM.
