All eyes are set on the upcoming SUVs, which are the next bet for auto makers seeking a turnaround in India. These will take centre stage in the forthcoming Auto Expo 2012. A week-long biennial auto fair, attended by several manufacturers, will witness exhibition of appealing off-roaders from around the world.

Audi Q3 Mini, Ford Eco Sport, Renault Duster, New Tata Safari (codenamed Merlin), Mercedes M-Class, Mahindra Rexton and Mahindra Korando are among the few of the models to be unwrapped at the auto event. The upgraded models of Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva and Force One will be unveiled as well. Apart from these, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai will be showcasing their future concept SUVs at the Auto Expo 2012.

Ford India Private Limited has not revealed details of the Mini 5-seater EcoSport, although there is speculation that the SUV shares design platform with Fiesta sedan. Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton and Korando are other models to look out for at the expo. On the other hand, Renault Duster and refined model of Safari (Merlin) will be making a strong statement with their presence. In the premium SUV segment, Audi Q3 Mini and Mercedes M-class are the offerings of the German car makers in India.

Over the last few years, SUV segment in India has grown at a commendable rate in India and has immense potential in terms of demand. The demand of SUVs has also increased manifold. In the present scenario, Auto Expo seems the best platform to capitalise on the trend.
