The German automobile company, Audi AG, recently revealed the updated version of its current R8 LMS GT3 sports car, renamed as R8 LMS Ultra that will be launched during mid-2012.

In a statement, Audi quattro Managing Director Werner Frowein said, “Our customer teams provided us with valuable suggestions and stated their wishes for the various fields in which the car is used. We have close ties to our customers and analysed their suggestions and wishes worldwide and subjected the R8 LMS to further development in many details.”

Launched in 2009, the R8 LMS GTR has achieved several accolades which include winning 115 races and 12 national and international titles during its three seasons of competition. Now the German auto brand decided to improve the R8 LMS GTR for 2012 racing season with the help of customer suggestions.

Frowein further added, “In the R8 LMS Ultra, we consistently implemented all the performance measures which ensure that we'll be able to continue to offer an inter-continentally competitive and attractive race car in the future.”

The advanced R8 LMS Ultra has new doors that are made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic, in combination with high-energy absorbing crash foams. This feature makes the new version comparatively lighter and safer. The PS1 safety seat designed by Audi forms a part of the new version's standard equipment that offers maximum protection.

Under the hood, the R8 LMS Ultra is powered with a 5.2-litre, V10 mid-engine that can produce maximum power output of 570 bhp and can deliver greater torque at lower rpm. Moreover, a new exhaust system powered by rave catalytic converters enhances the engine performance.

Audi promises aerodynamic enhancements in the R8 LMS Ultra for 2012 racing season. Some changes include broadened front hood with optional louvres, new rear wing with larger end plates and a new front plate with optimized diffusion that ensures greater aerodynamic balance.

Thus, the advanced Audi R8 LMS Ultra is expected to surpass the popularity of its predecessor and prove to be a commercial success for the company.
