In a bid to boost its market share in the Indian market, Audi India is planning to launch its small SUV (sports utility vehicle) – Audi Q3 – in the Indian market by next year. The company has already commenced the production of the car in Spain and it will be marking its debut in the European and US markets by the end of year 2011.

The Audi Q3 will be shelved in the price segment of Rs 20 to 25 lakh, where it will be taking on the likes of BMW X1. The Audi Q3 model will be brought to India as a CKD (completely knocked-down unit) and will be assembled at the company’s Aurangabad plant and rolled-out in both petrol and diesel versions.

While the 2.0L diesel variant of the car is capable of delivering a peak power of 170 bhp, the 2.0L petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 211 bhp. The car is expected to come loaded with four wheel drive (4WD).

Audi is currently the third largest luxury car maker in the Indian market following BMW and Mercedes Benz at first and second spots. The company sells a range of its car models in the country including sedans like A4, A6, A7 and A8 and SUVs like Q5 and Q7.
