The British luxury sports car maker, Aston Martin and Italian design consultancy and engineering services company, Zagato are set to celebrate 50 long years of their partnership with the launch of the racing car, V12 Zagato. The racing car is an addition to the series of hand built sports car manufactured by Aston Martin under its Vantage portfolio.
The collaboration for the production of V12 was made effective by Mr. Ulrich Bez, Head - Aston Martin and Mr. Andrea Zagato, Head - Zagato, in the first half of the year 2011. The designers of both the companies put forth various themes, of which the Mr. Bez and Mr. Zagato finalized the final theme consolidating all the production aspects.
The concept version of the V12 Zagato was displayed at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in May, 2011 and had made an enticing appearance at the Frankfurt Auto Show last autumn. Only 150 units of the car will be produced and will be rolled out in the later phase of 2012.
As per Mr. Marek Reichman, Aston Design Head, the exteriors of Aston Martin V12 Zagato features an intense slant rail over the windows along with Zagato’s contribution in the form of double bubble ceiling and an interesting full faced, convex front grille. The interiors of the car comprise of quilting done by Aston’s engineers and it is estimated that each of the car consumes around 2000 hours to be built up.
Moreover, the V12 Zagato will share the same aluminum chassis as used by Aston Martin Vantage and while the front and rear wings, boot and door sills are made of carbon fibre, the door and roof panels as well as the bonnet is composed of alloy finishing.
The V12 Zagato has a powerplant similar to that of V12 Vantage and the 6.0 Liter engine is capable of outpouring a peak power of 510 bhp at 6500 rpm. The differential six speed manual transmission gear box is placed under the rear of the sports car. The maximum speed delivered by the car is 305 kph and can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in just 4.2 seconds.
