Anti-theft seat sensors - An advanced car security system

Tokyo based Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology has developed the latest anti-theft seat sensor system. This system will be integrated at the seat base of the driver's side along with 360 sensors that will help in monitoring the weight as well as pressure of a person seating. The pressure will be recorded in the on-board computer memory installed in the car and will match with the person sitting at the driver's seat.

With this system, the car will only run if the pressure pattern matches the stored data. On the contrary, if this pressure does not match with the one stored in computer's memory, car will not start, rather the integrated burglar alarm will set off.

Once this system gets ready for mass production, there will be an integrated memory setting. In this memory, pressure patterns of multiple individuals driving the car can be stored. This setting will enable to store the posterior imprints of all the people who use the car.

This anti-theft seat security system has passed the laboratory tests by achieving 98 per cent accuracy. There is possibility of achieving 100 per cent accuracy, but some of the shortcomings will still remain like the system will not recognise the pressure of valet parking driver (if it is not recorded) or some random person driver the car in case of emergency. In addition, fluctuations in weight of a person, which is natural, can also become a hindrance.

It is expected that the system will be ready for mass production in two to three years. The upcoming anti-theft seat security system is quite beneficial as one can steal the keys and remote alarms easily, but backside print cannot be stolen.
