Ambassador, the iconic midsize car in the Indian market, is all set to get a complete makeover as the company looks to introduce a completely new version of this car with new design and style characteristics. The move will be taken in a bid to enable the Amby to compete more promptly with its competitors.
In last one year, the scenario of Indian automobile industry has changed completely. However, HM is yet to catch-up with the needs and requirements of the new age buyers.
The Ambassador model has been compared with some of the most popular iconic cars such as Volkswagen Beetle and BMW Mini. However, while Beetle and Mini are still performing considerably well in their new avatars, Ambassador is somewhat neglected by the buyers in India. The sales figures of Ambassador have now dipped to as low as 400 units a month, and that too mainly coming from government and institutional demand.
According to a recent statement given by the prominent car designer Dilip Chhabria, “It is an uphill ride. Apart from some very timid efforts, they haven’t done anything to it for decades. Being an icon is what has powered Amby sales since 1950’s. I believe the company should treat it the way Porsche has treated the 911, and BMW has treated the Mini.”
