Nissan Motors had launched its small car model Micra in July this year. The model has been well-received by Indian customers and has started generating volume sales for the Japanese car maker. Now Nissan seems to be getting ready to introduce another affordable model for the Indian customers which will be the Micra sedan model slated for launch some time next year. This means that Indian customers will soon have another entry level sedan vying for their attention by July 2011.
The new Nissan Micra sedan has already been caught testing in China and is expected to foray into the other emerging markets soon including India. There is no official statement from Nissan regarding the launch of a new entry level sedan in India but the company has already stated that the company will introduce nine new models by 2012. The new sedan seems to be a part of similar plan which will be compete with models like Tata Indigo, Maruti Swift Dzire and Volkswagen Vento model. The new sedan is expected to be powered by 1.5-litre dCi engine that drives the Renault Logan, producing 65bhp and a torque of 160Nm@2000rpm.
Nissan is currently planning to introduce the diesel variant of Micra hatchback and hence a diesel variant of the sedan model is also expected to be launched later.
