Anukool Rishi, a 26-year-old director of a real estate firm located in Gurgaon, died on the BRT corridor in New Delhi after he lost control of the Lamborghini he was driving. As the supercar collided with a lane separator and slammed into the railing of a bus stop, its door was unhinged and the iron rods of the bus stop protruded into the driver's stomach. A cyclist also suffered critical injuries, though his condition has improved now.

An anonymous senior police officer said, "He rammed into the railing installed before the Krishi Nagar bus stop in front of Panchsheel Enclave around 5.20am. He was driving at a speed of over 200 kmph."

Police said that the most likely cause of the accident was that Rishi could not control the car at 200 kmph. A police office stated, “It is difficult to control a vehicle at such high speed. And after hitting the lane separator, he lost the car balance completely.” The results of a post-mortem examination, which will confirm whether he drunk while driving or not, are yet to come.

Reportedly, Rishi had overtaken a vehicle just before his Lamborghini climbed the divider. Thereafter, the car crashed into the railing on the BRT corridor, climbed upon a footpath and finally came to a halt when it hit a traffic signal. According to the police, "He was driving in the extreme left lane. Since the lane is narrow, overtaking can sometimes lead to accidents. Also, the lane separator is not very tall and one can easily lose balance if driving at high speed."

After the first collision, the car had still moved 100 m, though the police believe that Rishi probably lost his life when the Lamborghini crashed for the first time. He was not wearing a seatbelt; police said that he could have lived through the accident if was wearing the seatbelt. According to an officer, "He died due to injuries in his stomach. When the car first hit the railing, over a dozen iron rods hit him in the stomach. Even the air bag could not save him as he was thrown out of the car."

In the melee, a cyclist, Kishan, was also gravely injured as he was hit by the Lamborghini. A police officer commented, “He is critical but stable. We are waiting for him to be fit enough to give a statement.”

Police anticipate that the driver was coming from Noida, but they could not confirm this as they are yet to speak to the family of the deceased. The authorities have also not spoken about the ownership of the supercar, which is said to be owned by one of the most prominent jewellers of the national capital.
