Audi Q4 has been confirmed by the German carmaker to join the SUV range sometime in 2019. The Q4 will be positioned between the Q3 and Q5, and will be a five seater coupe-SUV. Here is a digital rendering of the all-new Q4.

When introduced in a couple of years’ time, the Q4 will go up against the likes of the new BMW X2, Range Rover Evoque, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. By the looks of it, the Q4 will likely sport a liftback tailgate as was seen on the TT Offroad concept. The Audi grille up front with horizontal slats is imminent, whereas the headlamps will be all LED. The front bumper is expected to get a similar treatment to the one seen on the new Q8 Concept. It will receive a virtual instrument cluster as well, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and all the latest features and equipment the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer has to offer.

The Q4 is confirmed to take its design cues from the TT Offroad concept showcased at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The Q2 being the entry-level SUV in the line-up, the all-new Q3, which is due for next year, is expected to undergo a dimension revision to distance itself from the newly introduced Q2. This puts the Q4 in the similar dimension, albeit with a more coupe-SUV body style. It will be based on the same versatile MQB platform but will have a distinguished space for itself from the Q3 in this highly competitive segment.

Engine options would include the updated petrol and diesel units from the all-new Q3. The front-wheel drive will be standard with an option of Quattro system on higher variants. A plug-in hybrid e-tron variant of the Q4 is also on the cards. It would be interesting to see whether Audi will introduce a performance variant of the Q4 in line with their promise to introduce more souped up RS SUVs.
