Prototypes of Mercedes’ performance sedan, the E63 AMG, have been photographed while testing in Europe. Mercedes had unveiled the new 2016 E-Class at the Detroit Auto Show last month and is seemingly concentrating on fine-tuning the Affalterbach tuned saloon.

The Mercedes E63 AMG is the performance variant of the Mercedes E-Class and packs quite a punch. Rumoured to be powered by the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 motor, it is expected to belt out close to 550bhp of power. The meaner E-Class gets the performance car look with larger air intakes and a single slat grille with the three-pointed-star logo at the centre. The stance is aggressive with the wider wheels, larger alloys and side skirts. You also get two twin pod exhausts in the back and an integrated boot-lid lip spoiler.

On the inside, the E63 AMG will get similar equipment as the E-Class but wrapped in richer leather along with carbon-fibre inserts. The E63 AMG will also get Mercedes’ 4matic four-wheel-drive system as an option. The E63 AMG competes with the likes of the BMW M5, the Audi RS6 (Avant in India) and the Jaguar XF R.

The current generation Mercedes E63 AMG is priced at Rs 1.29 crore ex-showroom, Delhi. The 2016 E-Class is expected to reach India by the end of this year while the new E63 will take another year to reach the subcontinent.
