      2016 Toyota Innova may face stiff competition from Isuzu's RU 30

      Isuzu Motors has not been a popular brand in the Indian market. Toyota’s Innova has been a hosteller in the Indian market, Izuzu reportedly has been working on developing of a seven seater premium SUV for the Indian market. For now, the upcoming vehicle is in the development stage for now and has been codenamed as RU 30. Currently Isuzu Motors sells MU-7 SUV and the D-Max pick-up truck in India, but the vehicles need to be imported as the company lacks the presence of a local production plant.

      The anticipated upcoming RU 30 SUV from Isuzu reportedly shall be locally made. News has been going around for a while that Isuzu Motor has made an investment of about Rs. 3000 crores at Sri City industrial park located in Andhra Pradesh. The location is stated to be about 60 kms from Chennai. About 50000 units would be produced for the initial period and later the plant shall hold annual production of about 1,20,000 units a year. Post launch of the anticipated RU 30 MPV in India, the company shall hold annual production capacity of about 40,000 units. Reportedly, Isuzu shall get the plant fully operational by 2016.

      The current line of MU-7 and D-Max from Isuzu are assembled at a contractual Hindustan Motors Plant in Tamil Nadu, the contract is likely to be effective till the time when Isuzu’s plant is fully operational. In order to build a strong brand presence in India Isuzu has been working on developing a strong dealership base in the country that shall further aid in building confidence and trust among the local population. Technical and pricing details, on the upcoming Isuzu RU 30 is not known for now, but it is believed that the RU 30 may be powered by 2.5-litre D-Max diesel engine that shall generate about 136 Ps of power and may make it to the Indian market sometime in 2016.
