After making its public debut late last year in its home market in South Korea, the new HyundaiElantra has now landed up in China. The vehicle has just been shown at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show along with a few other important models from Hyundai including the Verna concept.

      2016 Hyundai Elantra

For the Chinese market, Hyundai is offering a total of three engine options – a 126bhp 1.6-litre petrol, another 1.6-litre petrol but with slightly different output and a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit with 128bhp and 210Nm of torque. These engines will be paired to either a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Hyundai India, meanwhile, will concentrate more on the 1.6-litre diesel option for India-spec cars. The brand could also introduce the dual-clutch automatic unit for the diesel Elantra.

The new Elantra is already on sale in several global markets including South Korea and China. It will arrive here in India possibly by the end of 2016 or early next year. Despite its age and rising competition in the D-segment, the outgoing Elantra has been racking up decent sales numbers in India, largely thanks to its big car looks and a generous equipment list. This new model, then, is expected to carry more of the same merits in a comparatively superior package.
