      1929 'Brough Superior SS100' Auctioned at GBP 315000 (3.03 crores INR) in London

      This is definitely some news for the odd bike enthusiast. A 1929 Brough Superior motorcycle recently went under the hammer in London, the United Kingdom and was sold for a whopping GBP 315000, which when converted comes to around 3.03 crores INR. This has made it acquire the title of Most Expensive Bike ever sold at a public auction. Interestingly, the previous world record for the most expensive bike to be ever sold was held by another Brough superior, when the SS80 bike was able to sum up an amount of GBP 291200, while exchanging hands in 2012.

      The current model, which was auctioned, is a 1929 Brough Superior 986 cc SS100 Alpine Grand Sports. This bike was owned by T.E. Lawrence, a World War I British Army officer. This was one of the nine Brough Superiors owned by the officer, who met his end due to injuries he obtained after facing an accident on one of his Superiors.

      Brough Superiors were known for their exclusive nature, with only 3048 bikes being produced of 19 models in the 21 years of its production. There were only 383 models of SS100, which was manufactured between 1924 and 1940. The bikes, at that time, were notoriously expensive, thus upping their sale value at the auction a notch further.

      The Brough Superiors were also known for their exceptionally high performance and quality, which allowed them to boast of many race victories and speed records between the years of 1920 and 1930. The SS100 models were backed by an unparalleled 1000 cc overhead valve, V-twin engines.
