Small cars have always been appreciated for their compact dimensions, better fuel economy and low cost of ownership. This is the reason why small cars have been ruling the Indian automobile industry for years.

Here, our list of top 10 smallest cars, manufactured in last 25 years that ruled the Indian roads.

Mahindra Reva e2o: India’s first automatic electric car, the Reva e2o, earlier known as the NXR, is an eco-friendly compact city car. It’s easy to drive, pollution-free and very economical. Mahindra Reva-i: The Reva-i electric car, launched in 2001, was discontinued in 2012 and replaced by the Mahindra e2o. With compact dimensions (2638mm length, 1324mm width and 1510mm height ), the Reva-i was easy to drive in heavy city traffic. The electric car was offered in three trims – Classe, A/C and Standard.

Tata Nano: Tata Nano is one of the most compact and affordable cars in India. When it was first launched, there were long waiting periods and the car created a buzz around the world. That is the reason why we see so many Nano cars in the market today. However, its sales have dropped over the years.

Maruti Suzuki 800: Maruti Suzuki 800, launched back in 1983, was a legendary compact car. It was discontinued in 2014. The overall length, width and height of the car were measured around 3340mm, 1440mm and 1405mm, respectively. The 800 was available in two trim options.

Maruti Suzuki Alto: One of the most popular compact cars - Maruti Suzuki Alto has always been a volume-generator for the company. The hatch is now in its second generation and received various exterior and interior updates. The first-generation was the successor of the 800. Maruti Suzuki Zen: The Zen, launched in 1993, has been one of the best-selling Maruti Suzuki cars in India. Its second generation model, the Zen Estilo, was introduced in 2006. The car was very compact and easy to drive. The Zen was measured 3535mm, 1495mm and 1405mm in length, width and height, respectively.

Maruti Suzuki A-Star: Maruti Suzuki A-Star, replaced by the Celerio in India, was a stylish small hatchback with impressive city drivability. It was discontinued in 2012. Having dimensions of 3500mm (length), 1600mm (width) and 1490mm (height), the hatchback was a fun to drive car in city as well as on highways.

Hyundai Eon: Hyundai Eon is one of the most compact hatchback cars in India.  It looks stylish, and offers decent driving experience. The hatch runs effortlessly even in heavy city traffic. Chevrolet Spark: The Chevrolet Spark is a compact yet very spacious small car. It’s quite easy to drive and park, even in congested city traffic and parking space, respectively. The hatch measures 3495mm in length, 1495mm in width and 1581mm in height. It is available in three petrol trims – Base, LS and LT.

Chevrolet Beat: The Beat is one of the most affordable and compact cars offered by General Motors. The car offers best-in-class interior, decent mileage and power output.
