Chevy Spark - Electric Vehicle...

16 May 2014, 03:35 PM

American auto giant, Chevrolet is planning to launch its all-new creation in India soon. The model, which is creating quite a buzz in the domestic market, is the Chevrolet Spark Electric. The electric car is available in the global market for sales and is expected to arrive soon in the domestic automotive industry as well. This green car, also called Chevy Spark Electric, is claimed to be a pure electric fun while driving. It has been packed with a heavy-power lithium-ion battery pack, which takes nearly 7 hours to get full charged via a 240V outlet. On the other hand, the standard 120V socket would fully charge this car in about 12-15 hours. The company also claims that a DC fast-chargeable version of this car will also be soon arriving on sales.

What makes this electric vehicle special is its powertrain, which quite differentiates from other electric cars available in the market. The 21 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is able to deliver a power output of a decent 140 bhp with a mammoth 540 Nm of peak torque. And what's more interesting is that being an all-electric automobile, it does not deliver any emission from the exhaust. In full charge, the car is able to do a range of almost 132 km before it gets fully drained. With so much of torque, the car is able to do a 100 kmph from standstill in less than 8 seconds. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of USA, this car has a fuel efficiency of a whopping 52 kmpl.

The front-wheel drive small car exhibits a similar look as Chevrolet Beat, which is still outgoing in the domestic as well as global market. The overall dimensions of the car are measured as 3721 mm at length, 1626 mm at width (excluding ORVMs) and 2375 mm at wheelbase, indicating enough space at the inside for occupants. Chevrolet Spark Electric has a comfortable seating arrangement and can accommodate a full capacity of 4 passengers easily. The overall layout of this eco-friendly car is slightly upgraded as compared to Chevrolet Beat and bears minor tweaks.

A new grille has been equipped in the car that is partitioned into two by the company's iconic logo. The headlight cluster is also refurbished and has been provided with powerful halogen lamps as well upgraded light system for daytime running. At the interiors, the car has been stocked with features of a 6-speaker audio system, Chevrolet MyLink Radio, lighting and dimming instrument panel cluster, tilt-adjustable steering column and folding armrests. Chevrolet MyLink is the company's infotainment system, which works in the car through a 7-inch colour touchscreen. Features of navigation, multimedia, internet radio, hands-free conversation and voice-over controls can be accessed through this system.

The Chevrolet Spark Electric is available in the international market within a price range of Rs. 16 lakh – Rs. 17 lakh and is offered in two models of 1LT and 2LT. The Indian auto market can expect the arrival of this car somewhere during the end of this year or beginning of 2015. The car is expected to bear a hefty price tag and will also be lacking some of the features, which are present in its global version.
