Summary

Volvo V40, a Hatchback has 2 versions available in India. V40 has 2 Diesel cars. Volvo V40 comes in 8 colours, namely, Black Sapphire, Bright Silver, Caspian Blue, Ice White, Inscription Electric Silver, Osmium Grey, Passion Red, Rebel Blue.

The Volvo V40 is the smallest Volvo you can buy in India and it is anything but small. After its launch in June 2013, Volvo had introduced the V40 Cross Country in 2015 and the cars have been untouched ever since. With the V40 being updated globally earlier in 2016, the launch of the facelift in India brings Volvo India at par with the global portfolio.

The Volvo V40 hatchback competes with the Mercedes A-Class, the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3 while the V40 Cross Country takes a swipe at the Mercedes GLA, the BMW X1 and the Mini Countryman.

The 1984 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 14 kmpl in city and 16 kmpl on highways.

As for the interior, it is spacious and plush. The vertical tablet-like screen takes centre stage on the dashboard. The V40 is a premium car and hence is offered with almost all the bells and whistles depending upon the trim. The top-spec R-Design gets special contrast stitched leather upholstery, electrically operated sunroof, power seats and a three-zone climate control.

Being a Volvo, the safety net is woven all around you. The multiple airbags, structural crumple zones, integrated pedestrian safety along with the latest generation of ESP, ABS and EBD with traction control work in tandem to keep the occupants as safe as possible.

The V40 is available in two avatars – the Cross Country and the hatchback. While the body shell and styling elements are same, the Cross Country gets added cladding and ground clearance to justify the tag. The new V40 will get the Thor’s hammer headlamps with the signature daytime running lamps and flanking the vertically slatted grille.  The side profile is the same except for new alloy wheels. The beautiful tail section has not been touched.

Under the hood, you have the option of the 1984cc five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that develops 150bhp of power at 3500rpm and 350Nm of torque from as low as 1500rpm. And yes, this can be bought in Delhi also. Only the V40 Cross Country is offered with e a petrol option of a turbocharged four-cylinder mill that develops 180bhp of power at 5700rpm and 240Nm of torque from 1600rpm. Both the engines are mated to a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that powers the front wheels.
