Detailed Volkswagen Polo Review

What's Good?

The car has excellent space at the front and the boot , which is perfect for a small family. There is elegance in the design of the interiors and exteriors , without being too gadgety. The drive feels extremely robust and stable which instantly gives you feeling of being safe .

What can improve?

The car loses out on small feature enhancements which feel like a fresh mosquito bite. Rear windows don't go down completely, the central locks don't automatically engage when starting and some more. Maybe the transition to European standard car features are too sudden for this Indian!

Overall Comments

The exteriors will not give you any chance on finding a sore point . The look of the car is undoubtedly distinct by being sporty and elegant at the same time. Broad wheel arches and the seamlessly integrated rear spoiler tells about the meticulously planned exteriors. Its not a car with exterior features added on . The long hood looks even longer with the accents along the body and gives an impression that this car is not a compact. You will definitely get that complain from the parking assistants that "Sir this is a long car , it will not fit here !"

Again - interiors are crafted to perfectly flow through. None of the buttons and accents seem out of place like someone has just added them in later on. The huge VW logo on the steering creates that first impression that this car is not about features but raw performance. The front is excellent in terms of space and comfort. Enough legroom and elbowroom for both front passengers to have a heated argument or gobble up a pizza. Maybe a regular 5 feet 8 tall guy have akward problem of finding a suitable place rest his elbow on long drives. Apart from that there enough pockets and slots to put your change, CDs, phone and those pieces of paper. The car audio is simple but offers excellent audio quality. You will not have complaints on options of audio source, but will find the transition between tracks is not quick. The driver display has loads of information which helps a lot you to drive efficiently. Overall , the look and feel inside the car is mature and not like a feature rich phone with lots of buttons.

One of the most stable ride quality I have every seen in a compact car. You will hardly feel any wobbles and the shake when you go over a bump. More than the suspension , the weight distribution of the car more than makes up for the lost fuel efficiency by upfront giving you a feeling of safety and comfort. Over a decently smooth road - you will hardly feel that the car is even running if you don't put your foot down to the full. At high speeds on highways, the car feels like doing 60 when you are actually beyond 100. While you will enjoy the subtle engine grunt which is music to my ears, some might not like it because we have been love with the Korean and Japanese silent engines. But honestly, the cabin noise proofing could have been better specially because honking is tradition we live with!

A well designed car which is sporty and elegant at the same time and has the ride quality which makes you forget about small things you finding missing. Perfect car for a small family who goes to work and loves to travel out for weekend getaways. Not the quickest and economical but the justifies it with the sense of safety and the standards of build quality which are apparent.
