Upcoming Volkswagen Next-generation Vento

Volkswagen Next-generation Vento
July 2019 Expected Launch
8 - 14 Lakhs Expected Price

India is expected to be one of the big bets for Volkswagen and one of the models that will play a central role in this plan will be the Virtus. It’s a new sedan based on the latest generation Polo and will be brought here once the MQB A0-IN platform is unveiled.

The exterior design of the Virtus is instantly recognisable as it bears the face of the latest generation Polo family of cars. Here the signature elements include a single slat chrome grille, rectangular LED headlamps and thick bumpers with LED DRLs. In profile, the Virtus has a clearly defined boot, sharp shoulder line and the same tail lamps seen in much larger sedans like the Passat and Arteon.

Step inside and you will find that the cabin is quite similar that of the new Polo. You get all the same elements like the steering and instrument panel and even the design of the upholstery and plastics are the same. However, here everything has been trimmed out in grey compared to the Polo’s black. In the top spec model that was shown at the unveiling, you even get the digital instrument cluster that was shown in the new generation Polo. To separate the Virtus from its predecessors, Volkswagen has made it as long as the current generation Jetta in terms of wheelbase, overall length and even the boot space.

The India-spec car is expected to continue with the 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Both will be offered with manual and automatic gearbox options. We also expect the advent of a Vento Sport, most probably with the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine and seven-speed DSG.

When launched in India, the next generation Vento will compete with the Toyota Yaris, Honda City, Skoda Rapid, Maruti Ciaz and the Hyundai Verna.
