      Opening

Tata Motors is set to roll out the new model of Tata Indica this year with added features and better style. It has already made its impact on the market by showcasing the new Tata Nano or the One-Lac Car at the recent Auto Expo in New Delhi this year. Although Nano took away all the headlines in all the car and bike magazine new columns, however, the new Tata Indica and Tata Indigo also found smaller spaces along the lines.

Amongst the new four-passenger vehicles, the New Indica caught attention of the auto lovers. It is going to be a little more expensive than its erstwhile model; nevertheless, the old patrons of Tata Motors have some thing brighter to look forward to.

      Change of Heart!

The New indica 2008 would come in two power packed models of petrol and diesel. The new Tata-Fiat joint venture plant at Ranjangaon near Pune shall roll out the petrol version with 1.2-litre variable-valve timing enabled motor, while the diesel is the 1.3-litre Multi-jet common-rail diesel. The new Indica also carries 1.4 liter DiCOR engine that runs in current Indigo model. Now that's truly called as a "Change of Heart"!

It will also sport a five speed synchromesh gearbox with overdrive, bigger 175/65 R 14 tubeless tyres and a twist beam suspension. The new model also has the non-independent rear suspension and the wider tires.

      Defining the Curves

This time Tata Motors have really worked on the design and looks of the new model. It is aimed towards the gen-next segment that believes in style along with value for money. The new model is bigger than its predecessors that spell into more interior space. The new model is not only longer but also wider to lend more leg room to the passengers.

The front design conforms to the standards of European versions as the bumper is quite deeper and the hood is more bulbous. The new Indica has a bigger smiling grill and Air inlet along with the evergreen Tata trademark of vertically stacked tail lights.

This hatchback model has centrally mounted instrument cluster and the interiors bespeak of space for double sized music system and the overall inner look and feel of cabin is just like the Honda Cars.

The new model of Tata Indica is a sure indication of the Tata Motors eyeing the European markets. Not only the new model clearly carries the looks and design similar to most European models, but also carries features that would work efficiently in those markets. There has been more emphasis on pedestrian safety features as well as safety features inside the car. Higher versions are expected to carry added features like airbags, ABS and probably EPS too. It also conforms to the safety standards of crash-worthiness and emission standards.

      On the Pocket

Indica has always been preferred in the taxi segment but the new Indica would not be able to compete in this segment. It is expected to be priced between Rs. 4-5 lac along with the current turbo and non-turbo diesel version of Indica V2.
