Detailed Skoda Rapid Review

What's Good?

At first when you sit inside the car and look around you won't be able to find anything that you haven't seen. Considering the same base of engine that the Rapid has gained from its smaller family members like the Fabia, you also would not expect the ride to be as accelerated as well. But, put it up on notch and brace yourself for the unbelievable pick up and sheer power that its 1.6L TDI diesel engine delivers. With that much power one would expect a cut in the mileage of the car but that was not at all the case. With an overall mileage of 15 KMPL the car is definitely worth the shot. Talking about the extreme comfort that the car provides, you just cannot make up your mind to exit the car. Once you take it up and drive off on an open road such as an express highway, you will truly know what exactly the car is capable of and how well it drives giving you the utmost comfort at the same time.

What can improve?

The leg-room that the seats at the back have can definitely be improved and the hump in the middle at the back seating floor should be removed as it causes utter annoyance to the 5th person who you might make sit in. Another thing that Skoda can definitely look upon as a scope for improvement is the arm rest that it provides to the driver. it is not only uncomfortable but is also too small a space, compartment-wise, to store anything. Lastly a one would drastically require the locking system to be changed. even when the doors are locked, they can be easily opened just by pulling the lever which may be a safety issue for families with smaller children. Though child-lock provision is available but generally one does not always take enough care to keep in mind to enable the child lock. Therefore, a classic traditional small lever of lock should be given.

Overall Comments

The front of the car looks similar to the Skoda Fabia. On the sides it has an out bulge which makes the car look all the muscular that it is. Coming around the back of the car you would notice the tail lamps as simple and giving the car a calmly and executive look. The front grill of the car with the traditional Skoda logo and typical Skoda-ish grill gives out the sport feel of the car. Overall the car looks calm but you always know that it is just waiting to unleash itself upon the black top.

Biege Interiors give you a premium feel about the car and the leather seats that the company provides just puts a cherry on top. The quality of plastics used is also very good and the overall dash board is perfectly intact and placed so strongly that one wold rather feel superior. The speedometer is while light lit and and has a digital display odometer that even tells the time, temperature and when your car needs service. Overall, the interiors are very luxuriously built and have been kept yet very simple.

Take the Rapid out onto the black top and ride your one of the smoothest segments in the category. This is though naturally expected from Skoda as they have a legacy of providing their customers with such a great ride quality. Minor bumps are taken up as chocolates by the car and come a little big bumps and speed breakers, it is then that the car shows you limited capability. The suspension is not soft and you would definitely slight crumps on yourself. But open it up on smooth roads and you will know that this car runs like a knife through butter. The front disc brakes that have been provided are actually quite good enough to make you stop at any speed at quite a small distance. The handling of the car is brilliantly churned up by the company. Though in the diesel version you will be able to hear the engine noise even in the compartment at times but overall the engine is very well refined for the Indian context of it. Powerful refined engine is not quite what you would get at a car priced in such a range.

Planning to buy a car of this segment? Don't wait. Just close your eyes and Rapidly buy the Rapid.
