      With heavy sales of Chevrolet Beat, GM India sales increased 7 percent during December

      General Motors India, the country’s fifth largest car maker, has registered a jump of 6.74 per cent in its sales during the month of December 2011. The company sold a total of 9,039 units of its portfolio models during this month as compared to 8,468 units sold in the same month last year.

      The popular compact hatchbacks of GM India, Chevrolet Spark and Beat remained a major contributor in the firm’s sales during the month by clocking 1,365 units and 4,796 units, respectively. The popular sports utility vehicle of the company Chevrolet Tavera accounted for sales of 1,927 units. On the other hand, the sales of company’s popular premium sedan Cruze stood at 486 units during the month.

      The sales of firm’s remaining India portfolio models such as entry-level sedan Aveo, mid-sized sedan Optra and luxury SUV Captiva stood at 191 units, 227 units and 47 units, respectively.

      In the calendar year 2011, the firm’s total sales stood at 1,11,510 units, as compared to 1,10,804 units sold in the preceding year.

      Speaking on the firm’s performance during the month, Mr. P Balendran, Vice President, GM India, said, "We have been able to sustain the growth primarily due to the encouraging response to Chevrolet Beat. Other carlines like Spark, Cruze and Tavera have also generated substantial volumes for the company."
