Datsun will mark the global debut of the RediGo hatchback by officially unveiling it in India tomorrow. The carmaker has kept the upcoming car under wraps and has only teased some images. By the looks of it, the RediGo seems to be a promising entry-level hatchback that will make it an interesting proposition.

It will be the Datsun brand's third offering in India, the other two being the Go hatchback and the Go+ MPV. Its external appearance is similar to the concept form that was first unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo. Not much has changed since then, as the design approach is the same and most of the components have only been altered to make it look sleeker and sportier. The external body cladding, roof rails and spoiler add to the sporty look. The cabin is expected to be equipped with the attractive features as seen in other cars from the brand.

The three-cylinder 800cc SCe petrol engine from the Renault Kwid might make its way under the hood of the Datsun Redi-GO. This mill that churns out 53bhp of power and 74Nm of torque, comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Soon, the Kwid will also get a new 1.0-litre petrol unit and an AMT transmission, which could also be introduced in the RediGo. If we go by rumours of the carmaker developing a 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel mill, there are chances of a diesel variant of the RediGo as well.

The RediGo will be the first Datsun product to be based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-A platform. The car will be produced at the carmaker's plant in Oragadam, Chennai and will share many components from its other siblings. This will help the automaker to bring down the vehicle's production costs and price the final product competitively. The Datsun RediGo will then compete with the entry-level hatchbacks like the Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and the Tata Nano in the Indian market.
