A compact hatchback SUV version of the Figo has been spied, sans camouflage, ahead of its debut next year. It is expected to be called the Figo Cross and here is what we know about it ahead of the vehicle’s launch.

      New Figo Cross

      SUV design elements
As expected, the leaked images reveal that the Figo Cross will get minimal side skirts, heavily flared wheel arches and a different grille as compared to the standard hatchback. Also expected in the package is Cross badges both on the inside and outside.

      Interior Upgrades
This will be the first major update for Figo family since it was launched in 2015 and in keeping with the latest demand of the segment, this car will get upgraded interiors. The new additions (as revealed in the photos) are a touchscreen infotainment system with a smaller display as compared to the one found in the new EcoSport.

      New Dragon petrol engine
The Figo Cross will debut a 1.2-litre version of the Dragon petrol engine and it will produce a segment leading 95bhp/115Nm. This is much higher as compared to the other petrol engines offered in this part of the market. Sources suggest it will be offered with a new five-speed manual in addition to the six-speed AT.

      More SUV models to come
This is Ford’s third attempt at an SUV and it will give them a solid footing with this body style in the B-segment where the Figo hatchback is present. The Figo Cross will be followed by an SUV based on the Fiesta, which will take on the Duster, Terrano and Hyundai Creta.

      The competition
Apart from the crop of B-segment hatchbacks, the Figo Cross also will also take on the Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Urban Cross and the Fiat Aventura.
