Nissan will soon launch a 1.0-litre variant for the Redigo hatchback. This is the first major addition to the budget Japanese automaker’s entry-level offering and follows in the footsteps of its French sibling, the Renault Kwid 1.0-litre that was launched in 2016. Ahead of its debut, here are six things that we can expect from this 1.0-litre variant of the Redigo.

      Datsun Redigo

      1.0-litre engine
This is the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit found in the Kwid. It produces 67bhp/90Nm of torque. This engine can be had with a five-speed manual as well as a five-speed AMT which is expected to arrive at a slightly later date.

      Variants
We believe that like the Renault, Datsun too will offer the 1.0-litre option in the mid-level A variant as well as the top-of-the-line T variant as well as T(O) variant. Given that there will be an extra cost involved, it seems almost certain that the Redigo’s feature list will remain unchanged.

      AMT
In addition to the manual models, there will likely be a mid-level A AMT(Automated Manual Transmission) and top spec T as well T(O) AMT variants. This is a five-speed unit and is expected to be operated through a rotary dial like the Kwid AMT.
      No major changes in design
We believe that apart from some stickers and badging, the Redigo is not expected to get any changes in design. This is not a bad thing at all, as the car already sports a unique and quirky design.

      Pricing
To get an idea of how Datsun will price the Redigo 1.0-litre models, we must look at the pricing of the Kwid 1.0-litre variants. In the RXL trim level there is Rs 22,000 between the 800cc model and 1.0-litre model and then another Rs 30,000 between the 1.0-litre manual variant and the AMT variant. It is a similar story with the RXT variants where the price difference between the 800cc model and the 1.0-litre model is Rs 22,000. The RXT 1.0-litre and RXT AMT have a difference of Rs 43,000. However, there is an RXT (O) 1.0-litre variant which is priced Rs 30,000 lesser than the top spec RXT AMT.
Judging by this, we expect them to have a difference of Rs 22,000 between the 800cc A variant and the 1.0-litre A variant. The price difference will be similar between the 800cc T (O) variant and the 1.0-litre T (O) variant. In the AMT trims expect a difference of Rs 30,000 between variants both in terms of A AMT as well as T (O) AMT.

      Competition
This Redigo 1.0-litre range will take on the likes of then Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Wagon R and the Renault Kwid 1.0-litre in the A+ segment of the Indian car market.
