Honda Cars India Limited has expressed its plans of increasing the production of recently launched entry level Amaze sedans, to reduce its waiting period. Following this, the auto maker has planned to start third shift at its Greater Noida facility from November 2013. With this move, the company is expecting to reduce the waiting period to almost 2-3 months from the present 4-5 months.

Expressing his views on this, the Senior Vice-President of Honda Cars India, Jnaneshwar Sen was quoted as saying, “The demand for Amaze has been so strong and we still continue to have more bookings. In order to reduce the waiting period, we have decided to start a third shift at the Greater Noida plant by November.” Speaking on how much the production will be increased, he affirmed, “We have not yet arrived at a number as the third shift will be shorter. At present, we are producing a total of 440 cars per day, including the Amaze, at the plant in two shifts.”

With the start of third shift, the waiting period for Amaze is anticipated to be reduced by around 2 months in the Indian auto market. It must be noted that the current estimated order backlog of the model is more than 20,000 units and the auto maker offers around 5,500 units every month, since its launch in April 2013. Commenting on whether Honda India will be adjusting production of other cars to produce more Amaze, the company official said, “No. Other models are being produced as per our original plans.”

It must be noted that the Japanese company introduced the entry level sedan Amaze at an aggressive price tag of Rs. 4.99 lakh, which helped the auto maker post a three-fold growth in its domestic sales during June 2013 at 9,297 units. During the same period last year, the company just sold 2,667 units. With the launch of a new model, Honda India has directly targeted the dominance of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, which has been doing really good in numbers.
