The mother plant for Tata Nano is not ready yet and the company is currently manufacturing the car at its Pantnagar facility. Tata Motors expects to deliver only 60,000 Nano cars by July 2010. The remaining cars out of the first one lakh customers will be delivered by end of 2010 or early 2011.

According to the statement from Ratan Tata in the annual report, the construction of Singur plant was 95 percent complete before it had to face troubled times in West Bengal and build a new plant from scratch in Sanand, Gujarat. The new mother plant is expected to be ready by March 2010. Once the plant is complete, it will have a capacity to produce 250,000 units annually. The new plant, once completed, will support the Pantnagar plant to deliver the first one lakh cars.

"In the meantime, the Nano is being produced in other plant facilities so as to enable around 50,000-60,000 cars to be available to customers over the next 12 months until the main new facility in Gujarat comes on line," Tata told shareholders in the report.
